Nem uma vida seria suficiente para conhecer Roma. Conhecer a essência, desvendar os seus segredos, explorar o já descoberto. Somos maravilhados pelas pessoas, pela arquitectura, pela luz da cidade, pelos sons, pela correria e confusão, pelos marcos históricos. E quando pensamos que já vimos tudo, viramos uma esquina e damos de caras com mais uma igreja esmagadora, ou com uma estátua, ou com a simples beleza de algo que nos faz duvidar da realidade.
No entanto, nem tudo é um mar de rosas em Roma. Toda a grande cidade tem os seus desequilíbrios, e esta não é excepção. É notório a pobreza que se faz sentir em algumas classes sociais. O descuido da cidade na periferia. E os avisos constantes a carteiristas. Mas nada é perfeito. E Roma está longe de ser perfeita, e mesmo assim somos atraídos pela sua beleza, pela sua história e somos confrontados pela nossa pequenez. Porque aqueles que idealizaram, construíram, conceberam elementos históricos como estes, não são nada menos do que grandes génios. E nós nada somos.
Not even a lifetime will not be enough to see Rome. To know her secrets, to see what have been seen. We are amazed by the people, at the arquitectura, the city light, the sounds, the run a way and the jumble, for the historical places. And when you think you have seen it all, you turn a corner and face with one more amazing church, or a fantastic statue, or the simplicity of something that makes us wonder of reality.
However, not everything is rosy in Rome. Every big city has its imbalances, and this one is no exception. The poverty that is felt in some social classes is notorious. The neglect of the city on the periphery. And the constant warnings to pickpockets. But nothing is perfect. And Rome is far from perfect, and yet we are drawn to its beauty, its history and confronted by our smallness. Because those who idealized, built, conceived historical elements like these, are nothing less than great geniuses. And we are nothing.
